FOUNDERS
Marcia Hughes

Marcia Hughes was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and migrated to the U.S. in 1973. She studied Human Services and Gerontology at New York City Technical College in Brooklyn, New York, and has been a practicing caregiver for over 20 years. As co-founder of Helping Hands, Marcia is on a mission to fulfill the passion and obligation she feels to advocate for the elderly. Her own mother, now 90, has been a client of the agency for several years. Marcia has been married for 28 years and is the proud mother of 5 children.
Marilyn Snooks

Marilyn Snooks was born in New York City and has lived in Columbia for over 30 years. She attended Midlands Technical College and the University of South Carolina. Marilyn has been a registered nurse for over 20 years, with experience in gerontology, cardiac, orthopedic, and rehabilitative care. Nursing is a ministry for Marilyn, and she has been passionate about caring for others since her teenage years. In her role as co-founder of Helping Hands, Marilyn assesses all client care, oversees client care plans, and trains caregivers. She is married and has one son.
